Victim rescued from smoke-filled apartment after grease fire
– On Sunday, March 11, at approximately 2:57 p.m., the Paso Robles Department of Emergency Services responded to an apartment fire at 2041 Riverside Avenue, in the City of Paso Robles.
A Paso Robles Police Officer on routine patrol was flagged down and advised of a fire in an apartment. The officer found an occupant of the apartment lying on the floor in smoky conditions, within sight of the open front door. The officer, with assistance from a bystander, removed the occupant from the structure. A Fire Battalion Chief arrived in under 4 minutes to find PRPD officers with a victim lying in the front yard and smoke coming from a bottom floor apartment. The first arriving Engine Company treated the burn victim and confirmed the kitchen grease fire was out.
San Luis Ambulance transported the victim to a local hospital with burn injuries to the hands and body. Firefighters confirmed there was no fire extension to additional units within the building and removed smoke from the residence.
A total of fifteen (15) firefighters from the Paso Robles Department of Emergency Services, CalFire/SLO County Fire and Atascadero Fire Department responded to the fire.
