New Atascadero Middle School dedicated with ribbon-cutting ceremony

–The new, 56,000 square-foot Atascadero Middle School (AMS) was dedicated by a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday evening. Atascadero Unified School District Board of Trustee President, Ray Buban, welcomed the audience, followed by a musical number by the AMS band. Superintendent Tom Butler thanked the community for having faith in the district when they supported measures I-10 and B-14. Butler recognized and thanked many who were present for their work on the project and within the district.

Principal Jessica Lloyd spoke regarding the three year project and the state of the art facility that was the result. The new two-story building has 26 classrooms, modernized existing classrooms and includes a new track and athletic fields. Lloyd commented on the conversion to a middle school which now includes all sixth grade students in the district and spoke very highly of the contractor, Larry Wysong, and the integrity Wysong showed in making sure that corners were not cut. Lloyd said  hat Wysong and District Executive Director of Facilities and Bond Projects, Stu Stoddard, worked hand in hand to see that “the dream was carried out.”

The AMS choir performed a number and then President Buban cut the ribbon. Those present were invited to take a guided tour of the beautiful new building as well as the modernized sixth grade classrooms. Eighth grade students led tours of the campus.
