Annual cornhole tournament returns Sept. 30
Proceeds benefit inclusive Joy Playground in Atascadero
–Mark your calendars for the 2nd Annual Showdown Cornhole Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Sunken Gardens in Atascadero. The Knights of Columbus and Kiwanis of Atascadero are back for a one day, 128-team cornhole tournament. Proceeds from this event benefit Parents for Joy non-profit group to raise funds for the construction of the Joy Playground in Atascadero, an all-inclusive playground for special needs children.
The tournament will allow up to 128 doubles-only teams. The morning will start with an 8-Team Round Robin Play for “A” and “B” Bracket double elimination placements. Teams that place 1st through 4th will play in the “A” Bracket for up to $2,000 in cash prizes for 1st through 12th Place Teams. Teams that finish 5th through 8th will play the “B” Bracket for cash prizes totaling up to $1,000 for 1st through 8th Place Teams with a full field. Plus there will be a $50 Prize for the Best Team Costume! Cash prizes apply to adult teams only (ages 12 & over) and can total $3,000 with a 128 Team sell out. Trophies will be given for 1st through 3rd place. There will also be a “Hole in the Wall” 50/50 Shoot Out with 1st through 3rd place trophies and the winner in 1st place will receive cash.
There will be food, craft beer and drinks available for purchase from Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis of Atascadero, All Event Corn Roasting, Tap It Brewing Company and Paradise Shaved Ice plus a DJ for some terrific music as the competition heats up. Please do not bring in alcohol from outside of the Sunken Gardens event area; however, you can purchase a variety of craft beer from Tap It Brewing Company.
Early Bird registration is available online at www.VisitAtascadero.com/events or at www.AtascaderoChamber.org. Early Bird pricing available until Friday, Sept. 29 at 5 p.m. with adult teams (ages 12 & over) priced at $60 per pair ($30 per person); the “day of” pricing will be $80 per team ages 12 & over. In-person registrations are also being taken at the Atascadero Chamber of Commerce office located at 6904 El Camino Real.
