Police say man forced his way into residence, repeatedly punched 84-year-old woman
–On Tuesday night, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the San Luis Obispo Police Department received calls reporting an assault taking place at a residential building in the 900 block of Monterey. When officers arrived they located an 82-year-old female assault victim being attended by neighbors. The suspect, 56-year-old Thomas Terrell, was found being restrained by neighbors.
Investigating officers learned the female victim heard a commotion outside her front door and went to check on the noise. When she opened the door Terrell pushed his way into the residence and forced the victim to the ground where he began punching her repeatedly. The victim’s screams for help were heard by several neighbors who came to help. Terrell’s attack was stopped by those neighbors who detained him until police arrived.
The victim was transported by ambulance where she was treated for lacerations and a concussion before being released from the hospital.
Terrell was booked and the San Luis Obispo County Jail and the following charges have been filed by the District Attorney’s Office:
- First-degree burglary
- Elder abuse
- Enhancement of causing great bodily on a person over 70
- Threats to commit a crime of violence
