Volunteers, team leader needed for annual creek and river cleanup day in Atascadero
–Community volunteers are once again being sought out to participate in the annual Atascadero Creek and River Clean-up event to be held on Saturday, Sept. 30, from 9 a.m. to noon. All volunteers will meet at the Atascadero Mutual Water Company (AMWC) Yard, located at 6575 Sycamore Road (please note new location this year.)
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and work begins promptly at 9 a.m. All volunteers should remember to bring work gloves, sturdy, closed-toe shoes and a small backpack to carry water. Volunteers will be provided with water, refreshments and snacks, as well as lunch upon conclusion of the event at noon.
Volunteers will assist with clearing Atascadero Creek and sections of the Salinas River, which are the primary source of recharge for Atascadero’s groundwater aquifers, and keeping these waterways healthy and free of pollution is an important part of protecting Atascadero’s water supply. Bring your family and friends to help too.
To make this event a success, hardworking community volunteers and team leaders are again needed. Team Leaders will be in charge of a group of volunteers assigned to a specific creek section. It is extremely helpful if team leaders have trucks to haul the debris to the AMWC Yard.
