Pine needle basket weaving workshop held at Morro Bay Art Association

Morro Bay Art Association is proud to present a workshop in pine needle basket weaving with Elizabeth Bear. Employing coiling techniques and long-leaf pine needles, this art form has remained virtually the same for hundreds of years.

Connect with the smells, texture and beauty of nature while learning the art of basket weaving. Bear will guide students through the traditional technique of coiling used by ancient cultures. Create two baskets, one to complete in class and another for practice at home. Each piece is a work of art as unique as the person who makes it.

These make great holiday gifts filled with treats. Bring sharp scissors and a bag lunch. All other materials are provided.

Workshop is Nov 4, 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. At Art Center Morro Bay, 835 Main St in Morro Bay. Fee is $110 for art association members, $125 for non-members. Make reservations online. For more information call (805) 772-2504 or email: [email protected].

Elizabeth Bear earned a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, Santa Barbara and owned and operated Dream Weaver, a store in Santa Barbara that carried a variety of hand woven products. Bear’s love of weaving and pine needle basketry to produce uniquely designed works of art. Baskets created by Bear have been displayed in the Santa Barbara Botanical Garden store and galleries in California and New Mexico.
