Pastel workshop to be hosted in Morro Bay
–Morro Bay Art Association will present a 2-day workshop in pastel by award winning artist, Clark Mitchell.
Mitchell is a professional artist from Sonoma County with an international following. His masterful use of color and interpretation lend a rich, distinctive dimension to his landscape paintings. Mitchell is known for his expressive capabilities and peaceful interpretations will make the viewer want to linger.
Mitchell earned a BA from Colorado College and continued his study of art through Academy of Art College in San Francisco, CA. He continues to challenge himself through continued painting expeditions throughout the state and across the country. He is ranked as Master Pastelist by Pastel Society of America and Distinguished Pastelist by Pastel Society of the West Coast and Signature Member of Laguna Plein Aire Painters of America.
Mitchell is represented by several galleries. His work is collected widely throughout the world. He was the cover artist for American Artist’s March 1993 issue. He was chosen as the poster artist for the Sedona Plein Air Festival for 2008. In 2009, his painting was on the cover of Southwest Art’s annual landscape issue. In 2011, Mitchell’s painting was on the cover of The Pastel Journal’s June issue.
Workshop fee includes an optional photo outing on June 22 from 3-5 p.m., followed by a Meet & Greet with Clark Mitchell at Art Center Morro Bay gallery. Students will enjoy a private showing of the exhibit, On and Off the Wall, sponsored by the Central Coast Sculpture Group and The Painters Group of SLOMA, as well as MBAA’s exhibit. Let’s Rock, portraying the many varied perspectives of Morro Rock. Afterward, students who wish to may set up their easels at St. Peter’s by the Sea.
