December events at the Atascadero Library

–The Atascadero Library has announced their programming for the month of December. The library will be closed Monday, Dec. 26 for the Christmas holiday.

Children’s programs

Preschool storytimes
Preschool storytimes are scheduled on Monday and Wednesday mornings at 10:30. They will share stories and songs.

Toddler storytimes
Join us for a storytime specifically designed for your toddler every Friday morning at 10:30. They will share stories, rhymes, music and finger plays.

Spanish storytime/libros y cantos
Join us for music, stories and friendship with Janet. Vengan a disfrutar cuentos y cantos con Janet. Every child who attends receives a free book in Spanish. Cada niño recibirá un libro gratis para llevar a casa. Dec. 6 at 5:30. 6 de diciembre a las 5:30. Ages: 3-6

Paddock Puppet Players
Join the library as they welcome the Paddock Puppet Players for some animal themed puppet fun. Thursday, Dec. 1 at 10:30. Fun for all ages.

Family Movie
Saturday, Dec. 3 at 2. See library website for details.

Craft Club
Come make a fun project! Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 3:30. Ages 6 to 12. Sign up required at the library.

Prince and Princess Tea Party with Magic Moments
Saturday, Dec. 10 at 10:30. For ages 4-10. Sign up required at library.

Lego Club
Join the library Saturday, Dec. 17 at 2 for some Lego building fun. Ages 5-12. Sign up required at the library.

Adult programs

Abe Lincoln Presentation Thursday, Dec. 8 6-7 p.m.
In celebration of the holidays, John Voehl, an Abraham Lincoln presenter and historian, recreates Abe Lincoln. Experience 5-Christmases with Lincoln (1860-1864), how he spent the day, celebrating, giving, working to save the country and how he had a key role in the image of Santa Claus we have today. The program will be held in the Atascadero Library Community Room. For more information call the library at (805) 461-6162.

“The People of the World” photo display
Beginning Dec. 1, the Atascadero Library will host “The People of the World,” an exhibit of the photography of Cheryl Strahl. Strahl’s award-winning images depict people and cultures from many countries around the world. This exhibit continues through Jan. 31. A retired engineer, Strahl’s passion has moved from software to photography. She finds inspiration in landscapes and people, and her work has been recognized locally and nationally. The public are invited to meet Strahl and enjoy her photography at a reception on Thursday, December 8, from 5:30-7 p.m., at the Atascadero Library. Light refreshments will be served.

Book Discussion Groups
The two library book groups are Gems in the Stacks which meets the 1st Tuesday (Dec. 6) of the month at 11 a.m. and Mixed Minds Book Group which meets the 3rd Thursday (Dec. 15) of the month at 2:30 p.m. Gems in the Stacks will discuss Johnny Carson by Henry Bushkin. Mixed Minds Book Group will discuss Packing for Mars by Mary Roach. For more information, please call the library at (805) 461-6162.
