Atascadero invited to participate in FEMA disaster training
Central Coast town equipping itself to deal with catastrophes
– On Tuesday, at the Atascadero City Council meeting, city manager Rachelle Rickard announced that a grant for the Federal Emergency Management Agency/Emergency Management Institute, or FEMA/EMI, had been received. Atascadero community members will be partaking in the intense four-day FEMA/EMI course in October 2016, at the Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
Out of hundreds applying, only 10-12 agencies are accepted per year by the natural catastrophe prevention organization, and Atascadero has been chosen to partake in the extensive training course. Working with each other and with other people and organizations from various states across the nation, Atascadero attendees will partake in powerful lessons and studies sharpening life-saving techniques in fighting disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and the many emergencies that can strike without a moment’s notice.
In particular, regarding Atascadero, those attending the FEMA/EMI will include certain staff members of various arenas, including school districts, diversified hospital personnel, assorted county members, police force, fire department and varied staff members across all city departments. They will team up with neighboring counties and agencies, interacting with all vital to community safety in the event of a catastrophe.
FEMA/EMI supports citizens and first-responders to promote national cooperation – state to state, city to city, town to town, community to community, person to person – to build, sustain, and improve all capabilities to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and alleviate all hazards and catastrophes, whether induced by nature or human. Some, but not all, of these disasters may be a result of floods, earthquakes, tornados, nuclear warfare, terrorist invasions and many other emergencies needing immediate and pressing attention.
