Best summer camps and activities for kids
–Most parents like to plan some extra enrichment for their children by enrolling them in summer camps. Here is a list of some of the best summer camps available for North County kids.
Art for Children Day Camp
Art for Children’s North County Day Camp will hold two sessions at Templeton Middle School and Templeton Elementary School in Templeton this summer. This will be the fifth year of the camp. Two sessions will be held June 27 to 30 and Aug. 1 to 4 from those entering first through sixth grade. The registration cost includes T-shirt, two classes per session and all materials. Classes run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and include art, drama, music, cooking, Lego engineering, GoPro Fun, marine biology, and more. For more information, click here.
AYSO Soccer Camp
American Youth Soccer Organization will host a summer camp in Paso Robles at Barney Schwartz Soccer Field #1 Aug. 8 to 12 from 9 a.m. to noon for children 6 to 16. For more information, click here.
Bob Cantu’s Basketball Camp
Former University of Southern California basketball coach Bob Cantu will offer five sessions of basketball camp in San Luis Obispo County with two at Paso Robles High School from June 20 to 23. Boys and Girls Club
The Boys and Girls Club of North San Luis Obispo County offers a comprehensive summer camp in Paso Robles and Atascadero for children 5 through 13 years of age. The program runs June 15 to Aug. 12 every weekday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and includes all meals. The club’s Summer Brain Gain program can prevent summer learning loss by extending learning throughout the summer. Young people work together in groups to explore ideas, learn through fun projects, express themselves with a variety of art activities all while building their academic skills. Summer Camp San Juan Capistrano
Camp Natoma
This is a popular week-long overnight summer camp in the hills outside of Paso Robles with five sessions available from June 26 to July 30 for students leaving first grade through leaving ninth grade. Each session runs Sunday to Saturday and offers a week of sleeping under the stars. Campers gain self-confidence, become positive team-players, expand their imagination, and develop a relationship with the natural world. It will also offer one family camp from June 17 to 19. Catalyst Summer Soccer Development Camps
Catalyst Soccer offers development and instruction for young soccer players, taught by current college coaches and players with an FC Barcelona-inspired curriculum to increase skill levels and tactical understanding. Charles Paddock Zoo
The zoo has a long-standing tradition of zoo camp throughout the summer. There are seven weeks of summer camp offered, starting June 13 and running through Aug. 5. There is a camp for everyone this summer; 3 to 5-year-olds, 6 to 8-year-olds and 9 to 12-year-olds. The campers will learn about wildlife diversity, conservation and their own central coast zoo through a series of learn-by-doing activities, animal meet and greets, keeper chats, crafts, zoo tours, games and more. College for Kids Summer at Cuesta College
Students entering fifth through ninth grades can take advantage of two sessions of College for Kids at Cuesta College’s campus in San Luis Obispo. Classes run Monday through Thursday. Sessions will be held June 14 to June 30 and July 5 through July 21. They include a wide variety of courses in science, computers, sports and hands-on activities. Miss Matisse Dance Camp
Miss Matisse Dance will offer four sessions: June 13 to 16, June 20 to 23, July 18-21 and July 25-28 at 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m. for children 3 through 16 years of age. The younger dancers will dance ballet and do crafts and the older dancers will dance jazz, contemporary, lyrical and ballet. Paso Robles Sports Club Camp

Playtime Discoveries Summer Camp
Playtime Discoveries is offering a summer camp for children at 7600 Morro Road in Atascadero. The nine-week program runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. from June 13 to Aug. 19 for children 4 to 11. SLO High School Sports Camps
San Luis Obispo High School offers a Sports Summer Camp for boys and girls 4 through 13 years old. A variety of classes in soccer, basketball, tennis, baseball and cheer are available. Camps run a week at a time from June 13 to Aug. 5. They are designed with an emphasis on fun and skill development.
