–A California Highway Patrol pursuit that began in Monterey County ended in arrest on Monday in San Miguel.

On Monday night, Templeton CHP Units were advised that King City CHP units were involved in a pursuit that was headed into San Luis Obispo County. Juan Carlos Landerosperez was reportedly driving a 2002 Nissan Xterra the wrong way on the highway near the City of Salinas, causing three traffic collision, one which resulted in injuries to the other party.

The vehicle was driving southbound on Highway 101 trying to run other vehicles off the roadway, according to CHP. As the vehicle crossed into San Luis Obispo County, a Templeton CHP Unit took over primary position in the pursuit. The vehicle continued southbound on Highway 101 at speeds of 95 miles per hour. The vehicle continued to drive dangerously close to other vehicles, and swerved towards guardrails and bridge abutments, and the median causing dirt and debris to be thrown into the air, CHP says.

A second CHP unit set up a spike strip near the 10th Street Street Crossing in San Miguel where the two front tires of the suspect vehicle were successfully spiked. The tires eventually lost air and the vehicle came to a stop.

The suspect, Landerosperez, initially began to follow orders, but suddenly he jumped back in his vehicle and began to rev the engine. Officers had to forcefully remove Landerosperez before he attempted to drive away from the scene.

As officers removed Landrosperez he reportedly began yelling that the “demons” were coming, and they were going to “get us all.”

Officers took Landrosperez into custody for DUI of drugs, battery on a peace officer, and evading a peace officer. Landerosperez was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail. One CHP Officer sustained minor cuts and abrasions during this arrest.
