Rides, wigs and more available at no cost
–The American Cancer Society provides resources to North County residents diagnosed with cancer. Through its all-volunteer-run Road To Recovery program, the American Cancer Society provides free transportation to and from treatment facilities, helping cancer patients receive the critical care they need. Pre-registration is required four days in advance of the need.
Female cancer patients experiencing appearance-related side effects from their treatment are encouraged to pre-register for one of the free, two-hour Look Good Feel Better workshops held around Fresno. Participants receive a complimentary cosmetics kit, and learn about hair, nail and skin care as it relates to cancer patients in treatment. Pre-registration is required three days in advance of the workshop.
The society provides one free wig per female cancer patient per year at its office, 1540 W. Branch St in Arroyo Grande, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call for an appointment.
Newly diagnosed breast cancer patients can receive one-on-one mentoring from a trained breast cancer survivor through the Society’s Reach To Recovery program.
