Eberle 2014 Chardonnay Estate – $22
This is a fruit-forward white with a buttery mouthfeel. It offers aromas of green apple and lemon peel. It will pair well with quail, chicken, and salmon dishes.

J Lohr 2013 Arroyo Vista Chardonnay – $25
This is a lightly-flavored chardonnay with tastes of pineapple, pear and stone fruit. Its from the Arroyo Seco district of Monterey County. It will make a great starter wine for a holiday meal and pair well with lighter dishes and appetizers.

Michael Gill Cellars 2013 Oso Blanco Vermentino – $40
This thick and luscious wine has already earned a double gold and two gold medals. The Italian varietal has a nose of apricots with flavors of vanilla and Mandarin orange.

Peachy Canyon 2014 Chardonnay – $30
This York Mountain chardonnay was whole cluster pressed into a stainless steel tank where it was cold-settled for 48 hours. The juice was then racked to neutral French oak barrels for fermentation. It offers flavors of pear, lemon and honeycomb and will pair well with many light holiday starters.

Per Cazo 2013 Chenin Blanc – $27
It’s been years since I’ve had a chenin blanc as good as this one. It seems chenin blanc is rarity in the Paso Robles AVA. Per Cazo offers a crisp wine with delightful minerality and acidity with notes of apple and pear.

Pomar Junction 2013 Chardonnay – $25
This chardonnay offers inviting aromas of fruit blossoms and citrus flavors. It will pair well with many lighter-style holiday appetizers and dishes.

San Antonio Winery Maddalena Riesling – $10.95
This Riesling would be a hit with any fan of sweet whites. The alcoholic fermentation of this wine is stopped before the yeast have converted all of the natural grape sugar to alcohol, leaving the natural sweetness of the wine–no grape juice concentrate is added. This wine is sweet but not sticky, with flavors of honey and pear.

Robert Hall 2014 Chardonnay – $18
This fresh white wine is a great value. It has aromas of pear, apple and peach with a smooth finish and hints of butterscotch.

Tackitt 2013 Gewurztraminer – $23
This is a balanced and not so sweet Gewurztraminer. It’s signature wine of Tackitt Family Vineyards. A fruity wine with hints of pear and a smooth finish. This varietal is a holiday classic and great for any holiday party.

Publisher’s note: For the second year in a row we thought it would be a great idea to recommend local wines for upcoming holiday parties and dinners. Once again, I had no idea how much participation we would receive from our local wineries. Over the last few weeks we received more than 100 entries. I was originally planning a list of 10 or so of the best wines, but after tasting and tasting and tasting, there were just too many solid, well-made wines to recommend. So we decided to break up the list of top local wines into categories. The recommended wines are in alphabetical order.
