Atascadero Muay Thai boxer hosting fundraiser for Thailand training costs
– Julia “Jewels” Perez is an Atascadero resident and undefeated amateur Muay Thai boxer. An aspiring professional fighter, Julia has the opportunity to train in Thailand, the heart of Muay Thai. The “Jewels in Thailand Fundraiser” was created to help offset the costs of her trip.
A lifetime resident of San Luis Obispo County, Perez endured the struggles of single parenting early in life. She put her dreams on hold to focus on finishing high school, finding a career and obtaining her Paralegal degree. While working full time, she has trained under Kru Albert Malatamban at Elite Muay Thai/Paragon in San Luis Obispo since 2013. With a current record of 6-0, Perez will be fighting in the main event for the Muay Thai Ultimate Women’s Bantam Weight Championship on Aug. 22 in Anaheim, Calif.
A fundraising event will be hosted on Saturday, Aug. 29, at The Giant Sub, 1111 Riverside Ave., in Paso Robles. It will be an all-day event of food, drinks and DJ entertainment. A portion of the day’s proceeds will go towards Perez’s $2,500 goal. They will also be hosting a silent auction, raffle and 50/50 drawing.
