Curt Eichperger joins Atascadero Unified
– Curt Eichperger will join Tom Butler in moving from Lucia Mar Unified School District and joining the team in the Atascadero Unified School District office. Eichperger will succeed Kim Spinks as assistant superintendent of human resources.
Eichperger will serve as one of three assistant superintendents in the district. Former Atascadero High School Principal E.J. Ross will serve as the new assistant superintendent of educational services, and they will be joining Jackie Martin, who is the assistant superintendent of business services.
Eichperger is currently the coordinator of student safety and support, a position he has held for the last two years. He will begin working for Atascadero Unified on July 1. He got that job after working at multiple locations as a teacher.
Eichperger’s education history:
- Coalinga High School teacher for one year
- Lucia Mar Unified world history and sociology teacher for two years
- San Luis Obispo County Juvenile Hall teacher for three years
- San Luis Coastal: Laguna Middle School and Pacific Beach Continuation High School teacher for one year
After attending a junior college to complete most of his prerequisites, Eichperger went to Cal State San Marcos, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in history and social science. He then went to Cal Poly and earned his master’s degree in curriculum and instruction while working on completing his teaching credentials. He said he knew he wanted to be a teacher before he started his undergraduate studies.
“[Teaching] is an opportunity to support students in their growth and education and allow them to grow into more productive members of society,” Eichperger said.
“I saw a wonderful opportunity for personal and professional growth [by applying for the position in Atascadero],” he said, adding that he liked that Atascadero Unified has high goals and expectations for its students.
Part of his position will be to develop professional development programs for employees that wish to advance in their careers.
“I’ll also be working very closely with principals and other management staff as they work with and mentor their employees,” Eichperger said.
When asked about his long-term goals, he said they “are doing the best I can in each position to support students and teachers.
Eichperger, his wife and their two children, one will be a sophomore in high school and the other will start first grade in the fall, live in South County and at this point have not made plans to move to the Atascadero area.
“He brings a lot of integrity,” Butler said of Eichperger. “I got to see him work first hand and I really respect the work he has done.”
