99 Cent Store robbery suspect linked to Chico’s Cafe robbery in Paso
The man arrested for the robbery of the 99 Cent Store was been identified as the suspect in the May 26 robbery of Chico’s Cafe in Paso Robles, according the Paso Robles Police Department.
The suspect, 25-year-old Kyle Kitchin of Paso Robles, has a significant amount of evidence collected against him that connect him to the crimes, including stolen property from Chico’s Cafe, police report.
Police have requested that the San Luis Obispo District Attorney’s office file felony charges of robbery, kidnapping, and disabling a phone line to prevent calling 911.
On Tuesday, May 26, at approximately 10:35 a.m., the Paso Robles Police Department received a 911 telephone call reporting an armed robbery had just occurred at Chico’s Cafe, 834 11th Street in Paso Robles. The cafe clerk told officers that a white male adult, wearing a bandana to cover his face, displayed a handgun and ordered the victim into a back office. The suspect ordered the victim to remain in the office while stealing money from the cash register.
The clerk further described the suspect as being in his mid-30’s, with a thin build, wearing a blue beanie style cap, blue shirt, and blue jeans. No one was injured during the robbery, but the suspect was able to steal an undisclosed amount of cash from the register. The suspect fled the cafe out the back door while the clerk remained in the office. The store clerk waited approximately five minutes before calling the police. The suspect was gone upon arrival by patrol officers.
The Paso Robles Police Department Detective Bureau has since been investigating the armed robbery. Kitchin was arrested by the Atascadero Police Department during a similar armed robbery of the 99 cent Store on May 27. Since that arrest, the Paso Robles Police Department Detective Bureau served several search warrants and conducted searches of various residences in the city of Paso Robles where Kitchin was known to live.
