Pomar Junction Winery inducted into Green Hall of Fame

Pomar Junction Winery, owned by the Dana Merrill family, was inducted to the International Green Hall (IGHOF) of Fame during its conference held April 16 at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

The Templeton-based company was recognized for its efforts which include third party SIP certification of its grapes and wine and solar electric generation. In addition to its own 95-acre estate vineyard, Pomar’s sister company, Mesa Vineyard Management reports that has 7,500 acres under Sustainability in Practice (SIP) third party certification.

IGOF inducted 16 companies at the event, including Honda Motor Company, Patagonia and the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance.

Formed in 2008, its most recent program featured several experts on water issues in addition to other topics.

“This is a great honor and we hope the recognition gives more momentum to Sustainabilty efforts within our industry” states owner Dana Merrill.

Pomar Junction produces wines primarily from estate grapes from Paso Robles and Santa Barbara County and is located at 5036 South El Pomar Road, in Templeton. The tasting room is open 7 days a week from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
