Alfaro says Caltrans safety procedures have changed since that tree felling accident killed her brother. Her son now works for District 5.

Six Central Coast Caltrans workers have died on the job since 1931. The most recent was Mike Feliciano, a maintenance while working in southern Monterey County in 2004.

Caltrans workers laid flowers for the six deceased Caltrans workers on a memorial at the District 5 office in San Luis Obispo.

Supervisor Debbie Arnold said motorists need to watch out for Caltrans workers on the state’s highways. She says we all need to remember that it’s a dangerous job.
