Paso Robles motorcyclist dies after collision on Hwy 101

A Paso Robles man died Tuesday morning following a collision with a truck in San Luis Obispo, according to the California Highway Patrol.

chpRobert James Dowdy, 42, of Paso Robles, was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries at about 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to a report in the San Luis Obispo Tribune.

On Monday at about 8 p.m., Dowdy was riding a 1995 Yamaha motorcycle north on Highway 101 approaching the Reservoir Canyon Road intersection outside of San Luis Obispo, the reports say.

Yolanda Ramirez, 52, of Bakersfield was heading west on Reservoir Canyon Road in a 2004 Nissan pickup truck, the CHP reports. She stopped at the intersection to make a left turn onto southbound Highway 101.

Ramirez allegedly failed to see Dowdy when she accelerated into the intersection, the reports say. The front of the motorcycle reportedly struck the left rear of the pickup and Dowdy was ejected onto the right shoulder of northbound Highway 101.

Dowdy’s parents, who are also Paso Robles residents and chapter directors of the GoldWing Road Riders Association Chapter CA1-L in Atascadero, say their son was a member of CA1-L and was wearing a full-face helmet at the time of the crash, according to KSBY.
