12-year-old girl hit by vehicle while crossing El Camino Real

–Monday morning at 8:03 a.m. the Atascadero Police Department and Atascadero Fire & Emergency Services were dispatched to the intersection of El Camino Real and East Mall regarding vehicle verse pedestrian traffic collision.

When officers arrived on scene it was determined that a 12-year-old female juvenile was crossing west on El Camino Real from East Mall in a crosswalk. A Dodge truck that was traveling southbound in the number two lane of El Camino Real failed to stop for the pedestrian in the crosswalk and collided with the juvenile. The juvenile was treated for moderate injuries and transported to the hospital via ambulance. Preliminary investigation shows that speed is a possible factor in the cause of the collision. Drugs and alcohol were eliminated as a contributing factor.
