Woman dies after crash on Highway 101 in Paso Robles
Car collides with semi-trailer crossing highway
–A car crash in Paso Robles near Wellsona Road claimed the life of a 40-year-old San Luis Obispo woman shortly before 5 a.m. Tuesday, according to California Highway Patrol.
Nathan A. Martin, a 44-year-old man from San Luis Obispo, was traveling southbound in a 2003 Saab on U.S. Highway 101 approaching Wellsona Road when a semi-trailer driven by 29-year-old Florida man Lazaro Perez reportedly made a left turn from eastbound Wellsona Road towards northbound Highway 101.
The semitrailer crossed the southbound lanes to get to the median of Highway 101 when, for unknown reasons, the front of the Saab collided with the back of the trailer portion of the tractor/trailer combination, according to police.
The driver and passenger of the Saab needed extrication following the crash. Rebecca Golde, a 40-year-old female from San Luis Obispo, was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of her injuries. Police say she was not wearing her seatbelt. Martin was taken to Sierra Vista Hospital with major injuries. The driver of the semitrailer was not injured.
Traffic on Highway 101 was diverted while the incident was ongoing.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
